Advisory Groups

VHDA hosts advisory group meetings throughout the year to listen to and learn from our partners. These groups include:

  • Rental Advisory Board
  • Homeownership Advisory Board
  • Supportive Housing Solutions Council
  • Minority Business Advisory Council
  • Northern Virginia Advisory Council
  • Rural Housing Advisory Council

VHDA relies on the expertise of advisory group members to provide guidance on programs and services as well as insight into industry challenges across the Commonwealth. Members include lenders, realtors, developers, nonprofit and local government entities, property management companies and other partners from all across Virginia. Homeownership Advisory Board

This VHDA advisory board is a communications forum to:

  • Explore challenges and opportunities to increase homeownership for Virginians.
  • Identify key issues and obstacles to homeownership faced by minority populations.
  • Recognize issues and common areas of concern affecting Virginia real estate professionals and VHDA.
  • Exchange information about our programs and policies.

Rental Advisory Board

Since its inception in 2002, this VHDA advisory board has become an essential affordable housing stakeholder group that has:

  • Provided guidance in establishing criteria for mixed-use/mixed-income projects.
  • Reviewed and endorsed changes to the Qualified Allocation Plan (QAP).
  • Contributed developer perspective regarding a leasehold policy.
  • Evaluated and commented on parameters for premature bond retirement.

Northern Virginia Advisory Council

This committee is made up of affordable housing stakeholders whose primary market area of operation is the Virginia Capital Beltway area of the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan Area. It includes government officials, nonprofit housing development corporations, private developers and business professionals.

The group meets regularly to discuss issues relating to both rental and homeownership, and also serves as a communication forum to:

  • Identify and address key issues.
  • Exchange information and make recommendations.
  • Coordinate resources.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of current VHDA programs.
  • Introduce pilot financing tools.

Supportive Housing Solutions Council

This council provides guidance and expertise in housing policy areas related to senior adults, homelessness and individuals living with disabilities.

Rural Housing Advisory Council

The newly formed Rural Housing Advisory Council (RHAC) is a cross-regional group that will provide guidance and expertise to VHDA regarding housing issues in rural Virginia.
