To protect our applicants, agents, and contractors, Virginia Housing has decided to suspend the application process for our Rental Unit Accessibility Program and Granting Freedom Program to reduce the risk of community-spread COVID-19. We are continuing to monitor the situation. Once the safety of all parties can be ensured and we return to our regular routine, Virginia Housing will re-open the program for eligible applicants.
You’ve been there for us when it counted. Now Granting Freedom is here for you, with money to make your home more accessible. Granting Freedom is a grant program for home modifications for disabled veterans and service members who sustained a line of duty injury resulting in a service connected disability. VHDA is pleased to partner with the Virginia Department of Veterans Services to make this program available.
Grant funds can be used to widen doorways and add ramps to make a home wheelchair accessible, to install grab bars in a bathroom or to make other modifications recommended by the VA that help eligible recipients feel more at home. Funding to pay for modifications to houses and apartments is available on a first-serve basis.
Who is Eligible?
A grant of up to $6,000 per residence or rental unit is available for Virginia veterans and servicemembers who sustained a line-of-duty injury resulting in a service-connected disability.
