It’s important to get in touch with Virginia Housing as soon as possible when you start having trouble making house payments. In many cases, contacting us early in the process will make it easier for us to work with you and help you get back on track.
If you are currently having financial difficulties or believe that financial difficulties are imminent and you would like to be considered for one or more of Virginia Housing’s Home Retention or Loss Mitigation options, please submit your application by following these instructions:
1. Download the
Borrower's Assistance Package
2. Complete all of the pages in the package.
3. Pages 1 and 2 detail all of the additional information and documents that are required and must be sent to us.
Note: Please retain your original tax returns, bank statements, pay stubs, profit and loss statements and hardship verification documents for your records and provide Virginia Housing with copies of these documents. All documents provided to Virginia Housing through your application will be retained in your loan servicing file.
4. Sign the forms where indicated.

Upon receipt of your Borrower’s Assistance Package, Virginia Housing will review the documentation for completeness and notify you of any additional documentation required to complete the Borrower’s Assistance Package. You will also be provided notified once your Borrower’s Assistance Package documentation is complete and your Virginia Housing point of contact has been assigned. Virginia Housing cannot assign your Borrower’s Assistance Package to your point of contact for assistance until it is complete.
