VHDA was created as an independent political subdivision of the state. VHDA is subject to certain supervisory powers of the governor and the state of Virginia’s General Assembly. VHDA is required to submit annually to the governor a report of its operating and financial status, and VHDA’s annual financial statements are subject to review by the Auditor of Public Accounts. VHDA receives no state appropriations for its operations and is fully self-supporting from the revenues generated by its programs. |

VHDA’s board of commissioners is composed of 11 members, all of whom are appointed by the governor of Virginia. Eight are direct appointees, including a Housing Choice Voucher Program representative. Members of VHDA’s board of commissioners are: |

| VHDA Board Meeting Schedule |
|
The VHDA Board of Commissioners generally meets bi-monthly during the first week of the month. Meetings begin at 11 a.m. and usually are held at VHDA's Richmond office, located at 601 S. Belvidere Street, Richmond, VA. The notices of meetings are posted on our website as well as the Commonwealth Calendar, www.virginia.gov/cmsportal2/cgi-bin/calendar.cgi. Committee meetings are usually held in the afternoon of the day preceding the board meeting and in the morning prior to the board meeting. The annual meeting of the board is held in August. The dates, times and places of the meetings are subject to change at the discretion of VHDA's Board of Commissioners. Board meetings through June 2010 are scheduled for:

| VHDA is managed by Executive Director, Susan Dewey, who was appointed by the Board of Commissioners in 1999. Dewey heads a leadership team of eight divisional managers and a strategic development leader who manage specific lines of business of VHDA's daily operations and the authority's overall strategic direction.
