Programs
and Services
VHDA offers
a variety of creative financing programs and helpful services to the
state’s citizens. These include:
Single
Family Loan Programs
VHDA has several home mortgage loan programs for potential low- and
moderate-income homebuyers. While most loan programs are aimed at first-time
homebuyers, a few new programs have been developed to meet the needs
of current homeowners. For the most part, these loans are originated
by private lenders. Also through our single family division, the housing
authority offers a free Homeownership Education Program year-round throughout
the state. All potential homebuyers are encouraged to take this award-winning,
comprehensive course prior to beginning their homebuying process. The
course teaches participants the steps involved in buying a home and
helps create more knowledgeable consumers. For a complete listing of
class sites, dates and times, go to the Homeownership
Education Classes page.
Multifamily
Loan Products
These products provide mortgage loans to developers, primarily for multifamily
rental projects for low-and moderate-income tenants. VHDA also administers
the federal Low-income
Housing Tax Credit Program.
Multifamily
Special Programs
VHDA administers the federal Section 8 rent subsidy programs, which
distribute approximately $55 million in federal rent subsidies yearly.
The authority also administers a moderate rehabilitation program.
Virginia
Housing Fund
The Virginia Housing Fund provides loans for multifamily housing that
will serve low-and moderate-income Virginians in hard-to-serve situations
or locations. The fund targets households with incomes from 50 to 60
percent of the local area median income and is designed to reach populations
that would otherwise not be reached.
Virginia
Housing Partnership Fund
VHDA administers aspects of this program for the state Department of
Housing and Community Development.
