We’re one of 42 housing agencies or authorities across Virginia that administer the federal HUD Housing Choice Voucher program. This program assists very low-income families, the elderly and people with disabilities by providing all or a portion of rental payments. An important part of the voucher program is our Housing Choice Voucher Resident Advisory Board.

This board is comprised of a small group of residents who receive vouchers. During the annual meeting at VHDA, board members provide valuable input on the HUD-required Public Housing Agency Plan. This plan, which outlines the programs and strategies VHDA carries out to meet local housing needs, is discussed at the meeting to ensure residents understand HUD’s voucher polices and procedures.

The annual meeting also provides an opportunity for board members to bring to the table first-hand experience about the impact of voucher program policies, as well as information gathered through contact with neighbors in their region of the Commonwealth.
