Begun in 2004 as the People with Disabilities Advisory Board, in 2008 this important stakeholder component became the Housing Disabilities Solutions Council. Working together to improve the overall availability and accessibility of existing and new housing opportunities for people in Virginia with disabilities, the council has:
- Offered advice on Access Virginia, an online housing resource designed to help Virginians with disabilities find accessible, affordable apartments. (Access Virginia was created by VHDA with a grant from the Virginia Board for People with Disabilities.)
- Recommended improvements to the federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program, administered in Virginia by VHDA, that resulted in the development of accessible rental units.
- Promoted collaboration between the Assistive Technology Loan Fund Authority and VHDA homeownership programs.
