You might not have realized it, but Virginia's Department of Housing and Community Development estimates that as many as 50,000 Virginians experience homelessness each year. Even more troubling, more than 24,000 of homeless Virginians are children.
Since 1993 — with the unwavering support of our loyal affordable housing partners — VHDA's Charity Golf Tournament has supported non-profit efforts to end chronic homelessness by contributing more than $1.3 million to shelters and Habitat for Humanity chapters across Virginia. Through an annual competitive process, non-profit housing organizations are selected to receive the tournament proceeds.
This year's recipients, who will be recognized during the May 24 event, are:
- Good Samaritan Ministries of Richmond,
- Help and Emergency Response in Portsmouth,
- Mercy House in Harrisonburg,
- Carpenter's Shelter in Alexandria,
- New Life For Youth in Richmond, and
- Habitat Metro Richmond.
A sincere thank you to all those who help us help the homeless. We couldn't do it without you.
