VHDA was recently honored with a Planning Innovation Award from the Virginia Chapter of the American Planning Association. Don Ritenour, VHDA Managing Director of Development, accepted the award on behalf of the authority. The award recognizes our efforts in promoting planning at the local level for mixed-use/mixed-income development communities that enhance housing choice options, community revitalization, economic opportunity and sustainable development.

To date, this REACH Virginia program has awarded 22 grants to diverse Virginia communities ranging from small towns to larger cities. The planning grant initiative is part of our broader multi-faceted approach to promote mixed-use/mixed-income development, which includes project financing and training for groups engaged in planning and development.
